Well-Trained, Proficient Workforce

NEC's engineering and technical staff is supported by a well-trained, proficient workforce, experienced with the manufacture and installation of stator and rotor windings, as well as the repair of large rotating electrical equipment. Both of our facilities have ISO 9001:2008 certified quality management systems.

The charts below show skill breakdowns for both facilities.

Columbus workforce breakdown of skills

At the Columbus plant, the workforce is mature and experienced. On the average, employees, shown in the chart above, have been with NEC for 19 years. The median number of years with NEC is 17. The newest employees have been with NEC less than a year, as part of the apprentice program, and the oldest have been with NEC since 1965.

Brownsville workforce breakdown of skills

At the Brownsville plant, the workforce is somewhat younger. This plant has been in operation only since 1984, and not quite 20 percent of the workforce were hired during the plant's first decade of operation. Thirteen percent of today's workforce have been with NEC for more than 15 years. Since 1995, NEC Brownsville has experienced continued growth in its stator coil, field coil and field service operations. As a result, over the last ten years, NEC has made a significant contribution to the employment base in Cameron County, Texas, which has an unemployment rate of just over 11 percent..
